Basant is a Hindustani classical raga.

Basant denotes the changing of the season and the newness of spring. This Raga encourages the mind to brush away its selfishness, just like spring-cleaning removes all the cobwebs and creates a fresh start. There are feelings of hope and expectation of a new beginning and the start of a new cycle. However, these emotions are not dependent on the physical change of the season, but are an encouragement of an internal effort to change.

Origin

Vasant is a Sanskrit word for "spring". The word is much older than the Sikh religion and any usage of the word in relation to melody or Sikh tradition is a later rendition of the word.

The variants noted in the Holy Book are Basant-Hindol and Shudh Basant which also called Desi Basant in the local language. Basant is a very old raga dating from the 8th century. Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Amar Das Ji, Guru Ram Das Ji, Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Guru Tegh Bahadar Ji composed Shabads in this raga. Performed in slow tempo, this gentle melody depicts quiet joy. 

Basant is a Raag for Spring (Basant) season. It is rendered mostly in Madhya and Tar Saptaks. Songs depicting description of the season, besides Shringar and Virah (Separation Pangs) Ras are common.

This Uttarang Pradhan Raag belongs to Poorvi Thaat. This is a Meend Pradhan Raag and creates heavy atmosphere.

Raga Bahar

Bahar (also known as Vahar) is a Hindustani classical raga. This raga is very similar (but still distinct) to raga Malhar. This raga is from the Kafi Thaat. 

Certain ragas have seasonal associations. Raag Bahar is usually rendered in the Spring season. Since it is the raga of spring, it can be considered that the raga has shringara rasa. The raag is sung at the Middle Night time. During the spring, it may be sung at any time of the day.  There are a number of film songs which use this rag; "Chham Chham Nachat Ayi Bahar" and "Sakal Bana Gagan Chalat Puravai" are two examples. However during any other season, it is a night time rag. 

Raag Bahar is a beautiful Raag that most appropriately brings out nature's beautiful blessings. Renderings with appropriate Khatkas and series of beautifully composed intricate patterns of Taans are conducive to its dynamic fleeting nature. In Raag Bahar, Madhyam is a prominent note, so one should have a Nyas on Madhyam while rendering Aalaps.

Raga Asavari or Asawari

 

Raga Asavari is a Hindustani classical raga. It belongs to the Asavari thaat and is performed in the morning hours.

In pre-Bhatkhande days this Asavari used the Komal Rishab instead of Shuddh Rishab. When Bhatkhandeji created the thaat process, he changed that Asavari's Komal Rishab to Shuddha Rishab but the name remained the same. From that time the old or real 'Asavari' has been called the Komal Rishabh Asavari, and the new Shuddha Rishabh Asavari is simply called 'Asavari'.

Raga Asavari and Komal Rishabh Asavari also appears in the Sikh tradition from northern India and is part of the Sikh holy scripture called Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Sikh Gurus Sri Guru Ramdas Ji and Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji used these ragas. The Raga Komal Rishabh Asavari appears as 'Raga Asavari Sudhang' in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Rag Asawari is considered to be the fundamental rag in Asawari that.  There are several film songs in Asavari; one common one is "Mujhe Gale Se Laga Lo Bahut Udas Hun Main ".  Asavari is a morning rag.  It is Audav - Sampurna due to the omission of the Ga and Ni in the ascending structure.  For those who still adhere to the Vadi/ Samvadi theory, it has been suggested that the vadi is Dha and the samvadi is Ga.

Asavari and its clones Jaunpuri and Dev Gandhar belong to late morning. The original version of Asavari used all four komal swaras – much like Bhairavi. It then ceded popularity to the modern version of Asavari, which uses shudh ‘re’ but komal ‘ga’, ‘dha’ and ‘ni’. When Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande grouped north Indian ragas into ten thaats, he chose Asavari (with shudh ‘re’) as the key raga of the thaat named after it. The original Asavari is now known as ‘Komal Rishabh Asavari’. The modern Asavari in turn ceded popularity to Jaunpuri, which differs from it only in using the seventh note ‘ni’ in ascending movement. Interestingly, with the shifting of people’s preference from shudh ‘re’ Asavari to Jaunpuri, komal ‘re’ Asavari has made a comeback of sorts. Most of the recordings labeled simply Asavari are in komal ‘re’ Asavari. Dev Gandhar also uses shudh ‘ga’ sparingly in addition to the Komal one. The three ragas sound very similar and some experts on music, including Pandit Omkarnath Thakur, do not consider Asavari and Jaunpuri to be different ragas.

राग वृंदावनी सारंग

वृंदावनी सारंग, ज्याला सारंग राग म्हणून देखील ओळखले जाते, हा एक हिंदुस्थानी शास्त्रीय राग आहे. त्याला वृंदाबानी सारंग असेही म्हणतात. हा राग सारंग रागांच्या श्रेणीत येतो.

 वृंदावनी सारंग हा एक काफी थाट राग आहे. त्याची निर्मिती स्वामी हरिदास यांनी केली. संबंधित पौराणिक कथा अशी आहे की त्यांनी हा राग गाऊन भगवान कृष्णाला पृथ्वीवर आणले ज्याने मूर्तीचे रूप धारण केले जे आजही मथुरेत पाहिले जाऊ शकते.

या रागात ग आणि ध या नोट्स वापरल्या जात नाहीत. ऋषभ (रे) ज्या पद्धतीने गायला आहे ते सर्व सारंगचे वैशिष्ट्य आहे. वृंदावनी सारंगचे थाट काफीमधील वर्गीकरण विलक्षण आहे कारण ते आरोहामध्ये 'नि' चे शुद्ध रूप वापरते, तर 'नि' आणि 'गा' चे कोमला रूप हे काफी थाटचे मुख्य वैशिष्ट्य आहे. त्यामुळे त्याचा थाट खमाज म्हणून ओळखण्यात चूक होण्याची शक्यता आहे.

राग भूप / भूपाली

राग भूपाली, राग यमन आणि राग भैरव हे हिंदुस्थानी संगीताचे तीन मूलभूत राग आहेत, जे त्यांच्या विद्यार्थ्यांनी प्रथम शिकले. हा राग फार प्राचीन आहे.

भूपाली, ज्याला भूप, भोपाली असेही म्हणतात, हा एक हिंदुस्थानी शास्त्रीय राग आहे. भूपाळी हा कल्याण थाटातील राग आहे.  त्याचा  वादी ग आहे आणि संवादी ध आहे. भूपालीत गंधार-धैवत संगतीला फार महत्त्व आहे आणि ऋषभ हा न्यास स्वर आहे.

भूप राग हा सर्वात अवघड रागांपैकी एक मानला जातो, कारण त्याच्या इतर रागांशी साम्य आहे.

हा राग कर्नाटक संगीतात राग मोहनम  म्हणून लोकप्रिय आहे. हा पूर्वांग प्रधान राग आहे आणि तो मुख्यतः मध्य आणि मंद्र सप्तकात गायला जातो.

राग भूपाली हा आनंदी आणि विचारशील अशा अनेक मूडसाठी अनुकूल आहे. हा राग आनंददायी, राजेशाही आहे, पारंपारिकपणे संध्याकाळच्या वेळी, सूर्यास्तानंतर गायला जातो आणि रात्री 7 ते रात्री 10 या वेळेत गायला जातो.

भूपालीवर आधारित गाण्यांमध्ये 'ज्योती कलश छलके' किंवा 'पंख होती तो उड आती रे' यांचा समावेश होतो. या रागातील बहुतेक गाणी भक्ती रसावर आधारित आहेत.
